Levels and Experience

Levels are a progressive mechanic depending on experience, reflecting the strength of Temtem. They determine their stats, when certain species will evolve and which techniques have been learned.

Levels[edit]

The current level for each Temtem is displayed in most related interfaces in the game. On the details page and during combat it is displayed to the right of the name, and in the overworld it is displayed on the bottom left of each squad member's icon.

Increasing levels[edit]

Levels increase when sufficient experience has been acquired. When this happens, the current stats of the Temtem increase, also depending on the species' base stats, the individual SVs and the TVs. At various levels new techniques can be learned, specific to the species. Additionally, certain species can evolve into others after leveling up a specific amount since obtaining the Temtem.

Level cap[edit]

The maximum level any Temtem can reach is 100.

Tamer level[edit]

Tamer level is a hidden mechanic that refers to the highest level a player has raised a Temtem to. Tamer level affects the following mechanics:

  • Trading: if a player received a Temtem of a level higher than their tamer level via trade, the traded Temtem can not be transferred to the squad until the tamer level reaches that Temtem's level, and it will instead remain in the TemDeck.
  • Trade House: players can not purchase or bid on Temtem of a level higher than their tamer level
  • Rewards: various reward formulas such as those of Wishing Wells, postal service, or Koish of the Week reference the tamer level, typically for determining pansun rewards.

Experience[edit]

The experience is shown by a pink bar, visible on the details page of each Temtem, after gaining experience in combat, in the squad menu and on the icons displayed on the overworld HUD. The number shown on the details page represents the amount of experience required to reach the next level. Once the next level is reached, the number resets to 0. An increasing amount of experience is required for each subsequent level.

Gaining experience[edit]

When opposing untamed Temtem are captured or defeated, or Temtem from NPC tamers are knocked out, experience is distributed among all Temtem that participated during combat. The rewarded experience depends on the level of the defeated opponent. A squad Temtem holding the Coward's Cloak gear always gains experience as long as it is not knocked out at the end of the turn, otherwise Temtem that participated but got knocked out before the end of the turn in which the opposing Temtem was defeated do not earn experience, even if a Revive is used, unless it is sent back in to participate.

If a single Temtem participated in combat, it earns 100% of the experience. For two participants the distribution is 50% each, for three participants it's 33%, and so forth. When an untamed Temtem is captured, the total experience it rewards increases by 50%. A Temtem with OT different to the current trainer earns 10% more experience. A Temtem that has cancelled evolution earns 20% more experience.

The level difference of the player's Temtem and defeated opponent Temtem affects the amount of experience gained. If the player's Temtem level is lower than its opponent, a set amount of experience is gained. If it is higher, the amount of experience gained is reduced relative to the level difference. For instance, if a level 16 Platypet and a level 20 Loali defeat a level 16 Saipat, the Platypet will get 403 experience which is its full share but Loali's share will be reduced to 367.

Experience can also be gained by using a Growth Enhancer, which provides an equal amount of experience as the current level of the Temtem would require to level up.

Experience formula[edit]

The formula below is used to determine how much experience a defeated Temtem gives.

OT - OriginalTamer: If the Temtem gaining experience is OT = 1. Else 1.1.

DEG - DefeatedExperienceGroup: Defined by the Temtem species of the defeated Temtem. Possible ranges are:

  • UltraHigh (3)
  • SuperHigh (1)
  • VeryHigh (0.75)
  • High (0.6)
  • Normal (0.5)
  • Low (0.4)
  • VeryLow (0.3)
  • SuperLow (0.2)
  • UltraLow (0.1)

DL - DefeatedLevel: Level of the defeated Temtem.

NE - NotEvolved: If the Temtem has been able to evolve but it didn't, 1.2. Else 1.

LD - LevelDif:

L - Level: Level of the Temtem gaining experience.

P - Participants: The amounts of Temtem that have participated in the battle against the defeated Temtem.

Update history[edit]

  • Early Access 0.7
    • Experience gained from defeating Temtem increased by 16%.
    • Experience needed to level reduced from Level^3.1 to Level^3.
